What a wild and woolly year it has been…
Reflecting on the year that’s ending and dreaming about your vision for 2021 helps bring closure so you can start fresh in the new year. To that end, here are some questions to play with:
* What were your wins from the past year?
One of the biggest contributors to happiness is recognizing your wins (no matter how small) and letting yourself appreciate them before moving on to the next target.
* What were your mistakes from last year? What did you learn?
We are wired to learn through making mistakes—think about a child learning to walk. Their nervous system has to exhaust all the pathways that don’t work in order to find the ones that do. If we recognize mistakes as a necessary part of the learning process, then we won’t be hindered by our fear of making them.
* What are your top 10 goals for the year to come?
One way to map out goals is to consider the different areas of your life (relationships, career, health etc.) and define a clear target for each of those areas. The more specific and concrete you can be, the better—instead of ‘a good relationship with my partner,’ go for ‘at least one 3-hour date night per week.’
* If there were one word for how you want to feel in the year to come, what would it be?
Picking a word for the year helps me remember what I want and brings me back when I’m off-track. Once you know your word, you can get creative about how to activate it—maybe finding an image for your word that becomes the wallpaper for your phone, or a song you play to pump yourself up before sitting down to work.
Wishing you an amazing year to come!!
